Married 69 Years

Mom and Dad have been married 69 years today; they tied the knot on April 12, 1941. This is their wedding photograph. Mom told me today that her suit was light pink and her hat navy blue to match Dad's suit. She wore an orchid corsage. Quite a handsome couple.

Today I brought them lunch from Thai Star, their favorite Thai restaurant. Later in the afternoon, the adult family home threw a party for them with a celebratory cake featuring their wedding photo. Pretty cool. Why wait for their 70th to roll around? Who can ever say it will? I think it was a great idea to party it up big today. Mom and Dad enjoyed the fanfare surrounded by their housemates, caregivers and family.

  1. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Thompson! I am sure they will celebrate their "Kronjuwelenhochziet" (crown jewel anniversary) next year. I don't know what 69 is, have to look it up.
I love Thai food! Sounds like a great celebration. /Tina

  2. Gratitude...one of the words in your "labels" just about sums it up for me...for them, for you, for those fortunate enough to count them as friends

  5. I just noticed this -- and congratulations to your parents! My parents were married the same day in 1947, so I always think about them this time of year.

  8. MM Thanks for sharing. Terrific, 69 years, a true commitment. My M&D were married 68 yrs before Dad died at age of 96. They were all built 'sturdier' than us I think, HA! Your young Mom looks or should say, you and your young Mom resemble each other greatly--beautiful women. Wish them well from me, Karen Mathiasen Cornelius
